JBL ProAquaTest CO2-pH Permanent – Continuous CO2 Monitoring for Freshwater Aquariums
Keep your planted tank in the sweet spot with the JBL ProAquaTest CO2-pH Permanent. This in-tank indicator (drop checker) gives a continuous colour reading of dissolved CO2 levels, helping you fine-tune CO2 injection and maintain stable pH for healthy plant growth and comfortable fish.
How it works
- Uses a defined KH reference solution (typically 4°dKH) inside the indicator bell.
- CO2 diffuses between tank water and the indicator air gap until equilibrium is reached.
- The colour changes with CO2 concentration: blue = low, green = ideal, yellow = high.
Key features
- Real-time overview: See CO2 status at a glance.
- Easy placement: Compact indicator with suction cup for the inside glass.
- Clear colour scale: Optimise for ~20–30 mg/L CO2 (green zone).
- No test strips needed: Long-lasting indicator solution inside the bell.

How to use (quick guide)
- Rinse the indicator with RO/distilled water (do not use detergents).
- Fill to the mark with the supplied indicator/reference solution.
- Attach the indicator inside the tank, below the waterline and away from direct CO2 bubbles and strong flow.
- Allow time to equilibrate (initially up to ~2 hours). Read the colour:
- Blue – CO2 low: increase CO2 carefully.
- Green – Ideal range (~20–30 mg/L).
- Yellow – CO2 high: reduce CO2 to protect livestock.
- Recheck after adjustments; make changes gradually.
Pro tips
- Refresh the indicator liquid every 3 – 4 weeks or after large water changes.
- Place at mid-depth in an area with gentle circulation for representative readings.
- Stable CO2 needs stable KH; verify KH weekly in high-tech planted tanks.
- Strong surface agitation reduces dissolved CO2; balance gas exchange with plant needs.
FAQs
Is it suitable for saltwater?
Designed for freshwater planted aquariums.
Do I need to refill it often?
Replace the indicator liquid roughly monthly or if colours fade/contaminate.
Why is it always blue or always yellow?
Blue: not enough CO2 or too much surface agitation. Yellow: excessive CO2, reduce injection immediately and ensure good circulation.
With JBL ProAquaTest CO2-pH Permanent, you can dial in consistent CO2 levels for lush growth and a stable, comfortable aquarium.
